Palestinians Acquire Non-Member Observer State Status at the UN

December 5, 2012 Palestinians rejoiced last week after Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas succeeded in his bid to have Palestine recognized as a non-member observer state of the United Nations. It was not good news for Israel or the peace process.

PA Bid For Non-Member Observer State Status Might Cancel Oslo Accords Gains

November 21, 2012 Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas has confirmed that he will ask the United Nations for non-member observer state status on November 29. Abbas selected this date because of its significance. It's the anniversary of the UN’s 1947 approval of the Partition Plan, a two-state solution that would have led to the creation of both an Arab and a Jewish State.
